About me

About me

It all started for me on the 20th June 1987 in High Wycombe...

Born in Buckinghamshire, I moved to sunny Shropshire with my parents and two older sisters in 1992 when I was 5 years old.

Fast forward 6 years and in 1998 at 11 years of age I was enjoying playing a variety of sports, including football, badminton, a bit of tennis and I started playing golf.

Golf then took over a little, and during the next 5 years I fortunately showed enough promise at county and regional level to persuade my parents that I should leave eduction at 16 years of age and play amateur golf full time to see what I could achieve in the game.

With the support of my family I progressed to playing golf for Shropshire, the Midlands and England (handicap +3.5) including captaining an England team in Finland. I was competing in over 16 countries around the world, and at times it felt like I really was living out of a suitcase.

I turned Professional in 2009, competing in some UK tournaments, some mini tours in Spain, and some events on the PGA EuroPro Tour and the European Challenge Tour. I was making some cuts and won some money but it didn't look like I was going to be the next Tiger Woods.

During this time I was naturally working with various Marketing Agencies, Sports Management companies, sponsors, business owners, consultants, and I represented organisations in various business sectors as a Brand Ambassador. I was trying to absorb as much knowledge as I could from anyone and everyone during this period as I thought (and still think) that this can only help me in in the future, should my career not revolve around playing as a professional golfer on tour.

From 2014 I was playing fewer golf tournaments, and was working more in Marketing. I was also a Director of a Sports Branding and Management Company, EltonGidney.com, working with Paul Elton we were successfully developing the brands and business affairs of Sports Individuals and Venues. This included representative services negotiating and securing sponsorship arrangements, and arranging PR activities for our clients including TV appearances on Sky Sports News, ITV Good Morning Britain and BBC News.

From 2016 I was delighted to join the team at The Shrewsbury Club, a Health and Rackets Club, as a part time Marketing Manager, alongside my freelance work as a marketing consultant. A year later I started in a similar role for 2D Law, and in 2018 I also joined the team at a full service marketing agency - Reech Media Group.

Since 2020 I have worked solely as a freelance marketing & sponsorship consultant, working with a small number of great individuals and businesses throughout the UK. I also have my first child, Ralph, who was born in 2019 and is a bundle of joy and I like to play lots of golf and tennis.

At the start of 2024 after several years of training, I have launched a new service where I am supporting people with resolving disputes and overcoming challenges. This is something that I am passionate about as I have had great support from some people during my life which has enabled me to overcome some challenges. Disputes and challenges are part of life and I want to offer my support for those who would like it.

If you would like to work together then please get in touch to discuss opportunities.

Best wishes,

Jon.
